Sunshine, Snifters & Slightly Slow Play: Our 10th Golf Day Round-Up

There’s something special about a milestone — and this year’s 10th annual golf day for The Matthew Hackney Foundation was exactly that.

Sixty-one fantastic men and women joined us for a day filled with sunshine, laughter, friendly competition… and just the right amount of “creative scoring.” But beyond the golf, the most important number of the day was this:

💛 £4,264.11 raised

An incredible total that will go directly towards supporting our growing counselling service — helping young people access the support they need, when they need it most. This phenomenal amount will help fund a full year of counselling support in one of the 31 schools we work with — reaching up to 48 children who may not otherwise have access to early, accessible support, and helping them stay on track with their learning, development, and daily lives.

Of course, no golf day would be complete without a few memorable moments along the way…

This year’s yellow ball competition brought plenty of excitement. Each team started with one yellow ball to protect at all costs — easier said than done! By the end of the round, only five teams managed to bring theirs home (a moment of silence for those that didn’t make it…).

With multiple teams tied, things escalated to a “putt-off” in the dining room — yes, really. Cue nerves, laughter, and some surprisingly serious putting as the overall yellow ball champions were decided in true dramatic fashion.

But that wasn’t the only highlight…

  • One unlucky player managed to lose their trolley wheels on the 9th hole — a moment that won’t be forgotten anytime soon 😄

  • The prestigious “Bowl of Shame” was awarded to Gary, Jim, Gary and Kev for… let’s say… very relaxed pace of play 🐢

  • A fair few snifters were enjoyed along the way 🍻

  • The sun was shining, and by the time everyone reached the 19th hole, there were plenty of red faces ready for ham, egg and chips.

None of this would be possible without the incredible support around us.

A huge thank you to Kentex Services and Edmundson Electrical for their sponsorship on the day and their continued support throughout the year — it truly makes a difference.

And of course, thank you to Hoe Bridge Golf Club for looking after us so brilliantly once again.

Finally, a massive well done to everyone who came along and supported us — whether you were playing, donating, or cheering from the sidelines, you helped make the day what it was.

And last but certainly not least…Congratulations (and chink chink! 🥂) to our overall winning team:

Paul, Neil, Gareth and Billy

Well Done to our Winning Team

Next year’s event falls on St George’s Day, and let’s just say… we’ve got something BIG planned 👀

So watch this space........

Here’s to ten fantastic years — and many more to come ⛳💛
